Make Sentosa more cyclist-friendly

Make Sentosa more cyclist-friendly

I WAS inspired to cycle to Sentosa after reading about the nature trails on the island.
I was surprised to find that there are almost no measures to cater to people who wish to do so.
Sentosa's website offers no information on entry for cyclists and the applicable charges.
I figured that the most logical route would be via the pedestrian walkway. But at the entry gate, I was turned away by an attendant, who said bicycles, even if pushed, are not allowed past the gate. This was because Resorts World Sentosa, which is on the other side of the gate, did not allow bicycles on its grounds.
The attendant advised me to use the main vehicular bridge.
I found this to be rather challenging as there are no bicycle lanes or road shoulders for cyclists. Traffic on the road, which has many bends, was heavy and comprised fast-moving cars, commercial vehicles and buses.
Upon entering Sentosa, I noticed that there are neither bicycle lanes on the main carriageways nor well-marked bicycle paths.
However, I did discover a few nature trails where bicycles are allowed and which are easy to negotiate. Sadly, these trails are not well publicised; there are no signs pointing them out to visitors.
There are several old and disused trails criss-crossing the island that can be developed into cycling routes, indicating Sentosa's potential as a cycling paradise.
It is a pity that the relevant authorities have not marketed the island as a destination for recreational cyclists.
The island should be made easily accessible for cyclists from the mainland, and perhaps even linked to the nearby park connectors from Mount Faber and Labrador Park to create a seamless experience.
It is time we make Sentosa more cyclist-friendly.
