SINGAPORE - Parliament will sit on Monday to debate issues on housing, public transport and education, as well as five Bills.
These include an amendment to the Energy Conservation Act, which affects heavy energy users from the industrial and transport sectors that consume more than 15 gigawatt-hours a year.
Of 67 questions filed, the Ministry of National Development will field 14 questions, such as whether the Housing Board would review the relevance of bomb shelters in HDB flats and the current 50-storey height limit for HDB blocks.
Members of Parliament have also asked if the Ministry of Transport (MOT) received confirmation on the toll for Singapore-registered cars using the 8km Eastern Dispersal Link in Johor Bahru, and if the MOT has studied the projected demand for bus drivers as it ramps up the number of public buses.
Opposition MP for Aljunied Pritam Singh asked if the MOT would publish an annual report, alongside those of SBS Transit and the SMRT, to show how the S$1.1 billion Bus Services Enhancement Fund will be used.
Mountbatten MP and GPC chairman for education Lim Biow Chuan asked if the Ministry of Education could implement a policy whereby schools are not allowed to give homework during holidays.
Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam will also seek authorisation to borrow S$170 billion through issuance of government securities, bringing total government borrowing to S$490 billion.
The five Bills up for second reading are the Public Utilities (Amendment) Bill, Energy Conservation Bill, Sewerage and Drainage (Amendment) Bill, International Arbitration (Amendment) Bill and Foreign Limitation Periods Bill. Channel NewsAsia
