Check the work, not the title
ON THE issue of misuse of the employment pass facility ("Foreigners offer to 'pay' for employment passes"; Tuesday), we focus only on whether the declared salary is paid or not, but there is another form of cheating.
This happens mostly in restaurants.
Foreigners are employed on a salary of $2,800 to $3,500 in restaurants with fancy titles like chief catering manager, senior catering consultant and so on. The actual job they do is only cleaning the tables and serving food.
These restaurants maintain perfect records for Ministry of Manpower purposes such as signed pay slips and cheque payments.
