'We fling an 'old' apartment to the scrap heap and replace it with one twice the price or half the space.'
MR TAN KENG ANN: 'The collective sale rule is an undeserved right given to the majority ('One owner should not hold collective sale to ransom' by Mr David Lim; July 23).
It requires the minority dissenters to appease the majority. Any owner who wants to object understands the enormous odds against him. Such an objector, lone or otherwise, is the victim rather than the perpetrator. A collective sale is something that an owner cannot reverse once it is passed unless he can obtain an equivalent replacement unit with the same amount of money he gets. For this reason, one owner alone has the right to defend his future happiness. As a minority objector, I want a 100 per cent consensus. Why should the majority be allowed to disrupt the peace of their unwilling neighbours? We fling an 'old' apartment to the scrap heap and replace it with a new one that is twice the price or half the space.'
