Driving S'pore too fast
MUCH has been discussed on the driver and co-driver for Singapore. But I'm suggesting a traffic control officer here.

I think the problem is Singapore moving too rapidly in trying to achieve world class status. A strong economy, overseas investors, foreign talent and so on have pushed the cost of living up, and this has escalated in an uncontrolled manner. But are the people keeping up the pace? Are they happy and driven or lost?
What about spiritual, intellectual, or cultural values? Everyone is living in a pressure cooker environment and life in the express lane. The speedy growth has left the poor and weak far behind, and the sandwiched class breathless in trying to catch up.
I suspect the driver taking Singapore forward is speeding. We don't need a co-driver but we need a traffic officer, one that can remind the driver not to move too fast. Slowing down is essential to check on the well-being of the passenger. Some might have fallen out and some could be vomiting from motion sickness
To be world class, we need an extremely positive and faster growing economy, and yes some problems are inevitable, but I hope we can take a more humane approach and strike a balance.
This will be a great challenge for whoever wins the driver's seat.
