MRS TAN POH CHENG: 'With the balloting of National Day Parade (NDP) tickets round the corner, I appeal for a fairer way to allocate tickets. I have heard people say they have attended the NDP three times or more, while many of us have not succeeded in the balloting even once for more than a decade. Our frustration is worsened when we notice tickets hawked online. For a start, tickets should have serial numbers so that, in the event of a complaint, those put up for sale can be traced to the seller. To dispel any suspicions of abuse, a differently numbered pool of tickets could be set aside for organisers, participants and their kin. Above all, tweak the balloting system so applicants who have never been successful will have a higher chance of success.'

Sale of NDP tickets strictly prohibited
WE THANK Mrs Tan Poh Cheng for her feedback ('Tweak the balloting system so applicants who have never been successful will have a higher chance'; last Saturday).
The balloting of National Day Parade (NDP) tickets is conducted by means of an electronic balloting software program, which randomly selects successful applicants from the entries submitted by Singapore citizens and permanent residents.
Our four-stage ticket distribution process of ticket application, electronic balloting, ticket notification and ticket collection is reviewed by an independent auditing firm to ensure fairness and transparency.
We would like to remind the public that the sale and purchase of NDP preview and actual-day tickets are strictly prohibited.
For those who are unable to secure actual-day tickets to The Float @ Marina Bay, they are invited to join the Celebrations @ The Bay where a string of complementary celebrations will be held and where the public can also view the fireworks from various vantage points in and around the Marina Bay area on Aug 9.
