More reports might go online
Looking into feasibility, with enhanced IT system for parliamentary reports
Letter from Yip Siew Joo Official Reports Department Parliament Secretariat
04:46 AM Apr 27, 2011

WE REFER to Mr Tan Eng Keong's letter "More thorough access to parliamentary records, please" (April 25).
Parliamentary reports provide a record of parliamentary proceedings such as debates and Bills introduced and passed in Parliament. In an effort to bring greater convenience to the public and in response to demand, we have made the reports of Singapore parliamentary debates accessible to all via the Singapore Parliament website since the late 1990s.
The availability of the latest up-to-date parliamentary reports online allows the public to keep abreast of the most current events and issues in Singapore. Making a more focused collection of the parliamentary reports available to the public also allows for faster and easier search of these reports, compared to combing through a huge volume of dated reports.
Currently, members of the public who wish to gain access to earlier Singapore parliamentary reports can do so (i) via the LawNet portal, (ii) by purchasing CD-ROM copies of the parliamentary reports at Parliament House, or (iii) by visiting the National Library.
We do appreciate that some members of the public need to access older parliamentary reports. In conjunction with the forthcoming implementation of an enhanced IT system for the Singapore parliamentary reports, we will consider the feasibility of offering more Singapore parliamentary reports online from the next term of Parliament in response to demand.
We wish to thank Mr Tan for his invaluable feedback.
