Issue opposition rightfully flagged
THE Workers' Party may not be ready to form a government. But if the turnouts at its rallies are any indication, the public may not care if the opposition isn't.
Where the Government has gone wrong is in the provision of adequate infrastructure for Singaporeans.
For example, in the 1960s, the Government supported the HDB so that it could build enough flats to get people out of the unhygienic slums and crowded squatter settlements, and to help resettle the farmers when Singapore moved from agriculture to industrialisation. The Government understood our basic needs then and got the infrastructure ready for the people to resettle.
In 2010, foreigners have come in hordes. We accepted them but the infrastructure was not ready. Overcrowded MRT trains and badly-managed public transportation system has irritated everyone.
This showed that the Government lacked planning and rushed to import talent while forgetting that the nation is built and sustained by the core Singapore citizens.
